Kyle's Krusaders PledgePage

Our goal is to raise money for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society and train to run/walk a half or full marathon this fall. Our team's mission, along with the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, is to cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin's disease and myeloma, and to improve the quality of life of patients and their families.

We need your help in order to reach our goal. Together, our efforts will make a difference. The research is working! Just 35 years ago, only 5% of children diagnosed with leukemia survived. Today, 80% of children with leukemia and 76% of those with Hodgkin’s disease will live thanks to research funded by Team in Training and other projects!

Disease Statistics
Leukemia, lymphoma and myeloma are cancers that originate in the bone marrow (in the case of leukemia and myeloma) or in lymphatic tissues (in the case of lymphoma). Leukemia, lymphoma and myeloma are considered to be related cancers because they involve the uncontrolled growth of cells with similar functions and origins. The diseases result from an acquired (not inherited) genetic injury to the DNA of a single cell, which becomes abnormal (malignant) and multiplies continuously. The accumulation of malignant cells interferes with the body's production of healthy blood cells and makes the body unable to protect itself against infections.

New Cases
An estimated 106,700 people in the U.S. will be diagnosed with leukemia, lymphoma, and myeloma this year. New cases of leukemia, lymphoma, and myeloma account for 8.7 percent of cancer cases diagnosed in the United States each year. Every five minutes, someone in the United States learns that they have leukemia, lymphoma, or myeloma -- nearly 300 people a day.

Survival
An estimated 640,000 Americans are presently living with leukemia, lymphoma, and myeloma.
